The anime with the best sound design is back! Fire Force is making a long-awaited comeback with its third and final season, finally bringing the scorching story of Shinra Kusakabe and Company 8 to an epic conclusion.
After nearly five years since the last season aired, the pyrokinetic firefighting adventure will return in two cours. The first half will premiere in April 2025, with the second cour following in January 2026. This will be a significant shift from the previous seasons, which consistently ran from July to December in 2019 and 2020.
Created by Atsushi Ohkubo (who’s also known for Soul Eater), Fire Force has enamored anime fans with its unique premise of firefighters battling spontaneous human combustion and mysterious fire demons. The series evolved from a monster-of-the-week format to a complex narrative involving an apocalyptic cult called the White Clad, who seek to trigger the “Great Cataclysm.”
The recently released trailer hints at high stakes, opening with an ominous scene with a crescent moon overlooking a scorched landscape filled with fire demons. Our favorite characters, including Shinra, Iris, Arthur, and Maki, are also shown preparing to face the Knights of the Ashen Flames in what will hopefully be a dramatic final showdown.
The delay between seasons is a result of David Production’s packed schedule. The studio, famous for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, has been juggling multiple high-profile projects like Urusei Yatsura and Undead Unluck. If time is what they needed to give fans an explosive conclusion to Fire Force, we’re certain no one can complain.
Will Company 8 uncover the truth behind the spontaneous combustions and stop the White Clad’s sinister plans? For those who can’t wait to find out, you can read the original manga by Ohkubo, which concluded in February 2022 after 34 volumes. That said, we’d recommend you wait for the series, which will be streamed on Crunchyroll.
