The end of an era is here. My Hero Academia has dropped its final season trailer, and it’s everything fans hoped for (and feared). Season 8 will officially close the book on Izuku Midoriya’s journey from Quirkless underdog to symbol of hope, and this new footage proves the series is going out swinging.
The trailer wastes no time showcasing the climactic conflicts that will define the series’ conclusion. We get glimpses of the long-awaited finale to All Might’s showdown with All For One, a battle that’s been building since the very beginning of the series.
Seeing the former Symbol of Peace in his armored form, clearly pushed to his absolute limits, is a good reminder of just how far we’ve come from that first episode where he passed One For All to a crying middle schooler.
However, the real high point is the inevitable clash between Deku and Tomura Shigaraki. The trailer shows both characters at what appears to be their breaking point, setting up what promises to be the most emotionally and physically devastating fight in the series’ history.
After seven seasons of buildup, watching these two former classmates (one who became a hero and one who became the ultimate villain) face off for the final time hits differently.
My Hero Academia‘s conclusion will be the twilight of what fans consider the modern Big 3 (depending on who you ask). Alongside Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen, MHA has carried the torch passed down from the legendary trio of Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece that dominated the mid-2000s.
With both MHA and JJK‘s manga having concluded in 2024 and Demon Slayer preparing its own anime finale through an upcoming movie trilogy, we’re witnessing the end of a generation.
JJK is gearing up for its third season with the “Culling Games Arc”, while Demon Slayer‘s first finale movie hits Japanese theaters this July. Now that My Hero Academia is stepping up to deliver its final bow this October, this is a perfect storm of conclusions for shonen fans.
Crunchyroll will be streaming the final season internationally, ensuring fans worldwide can watch Deku’s story reach its conclusion without delay. And while we don’t have an exact release date yet, October can’t come soon enough for viewers who’ve been waiting to see how Kohei Horikoshi’s masterpiece achieves that Plus Ultra climax.
