The highly anticipated Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has finally received an official release date.
During a stage event at AnimeJapan 2025 yesterday, MAPPA Studios announced that the film will premiere in Japanese theaters on September 19.
The film adapts the popular “Bomb Girl arc” (Chapters 40-52) from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga, also known as the Reze Arc. According to MAPPA’s official description:
Denji became ‘Chainsaw Man’, a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima, the woman of his dreams, Denji takes shelter from the rain. There he meets Reze, a girl who works in a café.
The studio also revealed that voice actress Reina Ueda will play Reze, the character at the center of this arc. Along with the announcement, MAPPA released a new visual featuring the character Bomb, who will play a major role in the film.
The Creative Team
The film brings together much of the talent from the successful TV anime that debuted in October 2022, including:
- Director: Tatsuya Yoshihara (who worked as storyboarder, key animator, and episode director on the TV series)
- Screenwriter: Hiroshi Seko (returning from the TV anime)
- Character Designer: Kazutaka Sugiyama (returning from the TV anime)
- Music: Kensuke Ushio (returning from the TV anime)
Additional key roles include Masato Nakazono as Assistant Director, Sōta Shigetsugu as Action Animation Director, and TOHO handling distribution.
A Continuation of the Story
Rather than producing a second season of Chainsaw Man, MAPPA opted to continue Denji’s story through this theatrical film. The movie adapts a section of the manga that falls roughly halfway through the first part of the series (titled the “Public Safety Saga”).

For fans unfamiliar with the source material, this arc is considered one of the manga’s best and is expected to feature epic action sequences that MAPPA has become known for.
While the September 19 date has been confirmed for Japan, international release dates haven’t yet been announced. Given the popularity of the franchise globally, western release information is expected to follow in the coming months.
