Sucker Punch productions, the studio behind Ghost of Tsushima, has finally announced a sequel to the award-winning game, titled Ghost of Yōtei. The upcoming Sony Interactive game is scheduled for release sometime in 2025. Ghost of Yōtei was unveiled during Playstation’s recent State of Play presentation, where other games including Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and the release date for Monster Hunter Wilds were revealed.
Set in 1603, Ghost of Yōtei will introduce a new protagonist, Atsu, and will be centered around the theme of “underdog vengeance”. Unlike the organized samurai clans of Tsushima, Atsu’s journey takes place in the lawless, untamed lands surrounding Mt. Yōtei. This new setting will present its own set of challenges as Atsu ventures into a region outside of Japanese control.
First impressions from the trailer suggests new gameplay mechanics, including dual wielding and a wolf companion, further expanding the Ghost of Tsushima experience, while still feeling familiar. As announced on the Playstation blog post, Ghost of Yōtei is Sucker Punch’s first game developed exclusively for PlayStation 5. This will allow the studio to fully leverage the console’s capabilities, creating a highly immersive and visually stunning experience.
Based on the announcement trailer, Ghost of Yōtei promises to be an exciting addition to the series, that will reel in both new and returning players. And with the much awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 also scheduled for 2025, gamers have a lot to look forward to in the coming year.
