We’re only two days into the month of October, but it has already been a mix of highs and lows for PlayStation users, with an enticing PlayStation Plus lineup counterbalanced by a short-lived but annoying dashboard UI glitch. Let’s start with the good news first.
October’s PlayStation Plus Essential Lineup
PlayStation Plus subscribers can now download this month’s Essential games, available until November 4. The lineup includes:
- Dead Space (PS5): The 2023 remake of the acclaimed survival horror title makes its PlayStation Plus debut. Get ready to face terrifying aliens aboard a derelict space station – the best way to get into Halloween season.
- WWE 2K24 (PS4, PS5): The latest entry in 2K’s wrestling franchise introduces several new features, including a 2024 Hall of Fame showcase mode, an expanded Universe mode with more customization options, cross-platform play for certain game modes, and over 200 playable WWE Superstars, including legends and current roster members.
- Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! (PS4, PS5): Step into a world where romance meets horror in this psychological thriller. Join your childhood friend Sayori in the Literature Club, but beware – dark secrets lurking in your school will soon turn everything upside down.
PS5 Dashboard Ads Controversy
Now, to the less exciting news, a recent PlayStation update caused a wave of intrusive ads to flood the PS5 interface, leaving many players infuriated. The annoying update displayed full-screen promotional news posts about games, appearing when users browsed their software library. Even worse, some of these ads were outdated or irrelevant.
Fortunately, Sony was quick to address the situation. Daniel Hiatt, PlayStation’s product director, assured the community that the ads were the result of a bug, not a new advertising initiative. Within hours, Sony fixed the issue.
The official PlayStation support account on X confirmed: “A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved. There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5.”
Xbox users may have experienced similar promotional content, but PlayStation players made it clear they won’t tolerate any obnoxious ads. Look at how annoying YouTube has become right now!
