Gaming fans, prepare yourselves for a visual treat! Amazon Prime Video has just dropped the first teaser for Secret Level, an ambitious new animated anthology series. This exciting project comes from the creative minds behind Netflix’s acclaimed Love, Death + Robots, with a unique twist: each episode is inspired by a different video game.
The teaser, which was unveiled during Gamescom, does a great job capturing audience interest with a peek at the show’s impressive animation quality. Blur Studio, known for their masterful animated works targeting adult audiences, will be bringing their expertise to this project. Tim Miller and Dave Wilson will serve as executive producers, with Wilson taking on the role of supervising director.
Secret Level features an unprecedented collection of gaming inspirations, with 15 episodes drawn from an assorted array of renowned titles. The lineup really reads like a who’s who of gaming, spanning genres and generations. There’s some mecha combat from Armored Core, classic maze-running from PAC-MAN, fantasy roleplaying from Dungeons & Dragons, and sci-fi action from The Outer Worlds. Indeed, there’s something for every type of gamer.
Other major titles include Mega Man, Warhammer 40,000, Spelunky, and Unreal Tournament. The series will also highlight various PlayStation Studios properties, though the specific titles are still under wraps.
Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Secret Level weaves a tapestry of iconic games across multiple mediums, to tell a series of unique and captivating stories.”
The anthology format will certainly allow Secret Level to explore these gaming worlds in fresh and unexpected ways. While fans of the featured games will likely find much to love, the series aims to appeal to a broader audience with its high-quality animation and creative storylines.
While it’s still early to make any definitive statements, it’s fair to presume that Secret Level will turn a number of viewers into gamers (though they’ll likely choose PlayStation, for obvious reasons – sorry Xbox!).
