Christopher Nolan rarely misses when it comes to casting. The renowned filmmaker is already assembling an all-star cast for his next feature, and the biggest surprise of all is that Tom Holland is in talks to join the project alongside Matt Damon.
The yet-untitled film, set for a July 17, 2026 release through Universal Pictures, remains shrouded in Nolan’s characteristic secrecy. While plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, sources indicate the story will take place outside the present day, though it’s unclear whether we’re heading to the past or future. Interestingly, rumors suggest it could be a father-son tale, with Tom Holland and Matt Damon potentially portraying the central relationship.
The project would be Holland’s first collaboration with the acclaimed director, while Damon is becoming something of a Nolan regular, having previously appeared in both Oppenheimer and Interstellar.
The film is scheduled to begin production early next year, though coordinating schedules might prove challenging. Holland’s dance card is particularly full, as he’s expected to juggle this project alongside Spider-Man 4 and a possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.
This will be Nolan’s 13th feature film and his second project with Universal Pictures, following the phenomenal success of Oppenheimer, which earned nearly $1 billion worldwide and claimed both Best Picture and Best Director at the Academy Awards. Rather than shopping the project around, Nolan went directly to Universal Pictures, solidifying what appears to be a fruitful new creative partnership after his highly publicized split from Warner Bros.
The film will be shot in IMAX, with Nolan writing and directing, while he and his partner, Emma Thomas, will produce through their Syncopy banner. Given Nolan’s track record of assembling stellar ensembles, we can expect more high-profile casting announcements to follow.
